The youthful voter appear to have caused a lot of damage to the ruling party in the 2014 general elections that saw the opposition increase their Parliament seats to 20.

The exponential surge of the youth voters to 47% in the 2014 general elections lends itself to a hypothesis that the youth were behind the outcome of the elections, according to the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)  secretary general’s report.

Botsalo Ntuane’s report shares fears that by the next elections, the youth cohort could rise to more than 50% of the electorates, thereby positioning themselves to decide the outcome of the polls.
