The smartphone makes them mum

It is a smart gadget whetting the huge appetite humans have for social media.

However, it has turned many into technological zombies. It is called the smartphone. "I feel half complete without it," says Aone Monageng, a 26-year old accountant in Gaborone. She bought herself a Blackberry early this year.

She says that among the many advantages of owning the pricey gadget is that she is up to date with current affairs and she can exchange photos with her friends anytime and anywhere.  The downside is that she is self-ostracised from the physical human interactions by her love for the device. "At times, I get a bus with my headphones on and forget to greet the person next to me," she says. Failure to acknowledge other people during a meeting is considered rude in Botswana.
