FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) politician, Ignatius Moswaane has claimed that opposition members signed the petition that caused the postponed Francistown West by-election because they do not like his main opponent, Dr Habaudi Hubona of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

“Many people, some of them from opposition parties signed the petition because it was not about BDP, but about the interest of the public. BCP should stop going around threatening electorates who have signed the petition that they will be charged,” he said this week. He singled out BCP members saying they petitioned for the controversial postponement because they were against Hubona.

The by-election was postponed last month to February next year after Moswaane was time barred following a challenge to his win in the BDP primaries by his main rival, Whyte Marobela.
