The 2012 national examinations are set to be crisis-free after the conclusion of negotiations over invigilation fees. The talks have dragged on for months amidst fears that the nation was headed for another tragedy as the exams approach.

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development together with teachers' unions represented by Innocent Mannathoko of the Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) and Justice Kgabeng from the Botswana Teachers Unions, agreed and signed a concluding statement on the conduct of the 2012 examinations last Friday.

Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) and the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education commence Monday after unions agreed on a slight increment of P5 from last year's P50 per hour. Principal public relations officer in the Ministry of Eucation, Oarabile Phefo said Batswana should anticipate well-administered exams, as teachers who are highly skilled for the task will conduct the exercise. "I will definitely assure the nation that this years' exams will run smoothly after the agreement with unions," Phefo said.
