System blamed for late payment of teachers again

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) has blamed technical glitches in the government accounting budgeting system (GABS) for late payment of temporary teachers in the central region.

The ministry said the problem only affects temporary teachers because payment processes for permanent staff is done at the beginning of the year.

MoESD principal public relations officer, Oarabile Phefo, said it is difficult to use a similar arrangement with temporary employees because they are always on the move.
