State refuses to pay victim

Konyango successfully sued government and was awarded P75,000 for unlawful arrest and detention, but the government argues that the amount was excessive despite the plaintiff’s details of harrowing experience of being behind bars at Maximum Security State Prison.
Suspended Justice Key Dingake ruled in favour of Konyango but the state had only paid the victim P14 000, arguing the rest was too excessive. Through his lawyer Nehemiah Mugoni, Konyango had submitted in counter of the government’s appeal the judegment, saying that the state should pay the remaining amount as ordered by the trial court.
