SSKIA 10 months away from completion

Despite the first global De Beers' sale set to start on Monday the relocation of the Diamond Trading Company from London to Gaborone, some parts of the Sir Seretse International Airport Terminal building will remain covered in shade nets, scaffolding and corrugated iron for more weeks to come.

The multi-million Pula project was left incomplete after government and the airport contractor Sinohydro (Pty) Ltd ended up in a conflict over the quality of works and payments thereto. Sinohydro has since relocated from Botswana.

Recently Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) Communications Manager, Modipe Nkwe confirmed to Mmegi that the airport would not be of international standard in the near future, as the hunt continues for a new contractor.
