Serite has had his charges dropped

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has withdrawn charges against journalist Sonny Serite and amended those against his co-accused Abueng Sebola, a records officer at the Office of the President (OP).

Serite and Sebola were facing charges of receiving stolen property and stealing by servant respectively. It had been alleged that Sebola handed over to Serite some information contained in a file belonging to Tsaone Nkarabang who works at the OP. While Serite walks free, Sebola has now been charged with abuse of office by duplicating a file belonging to Nkarabang. After the case was postponed during the previous mention due to the failure by the prosecution to conclude investigations, the matter went before Extension II Magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube yesterday.

In a brief session, state lawyer Christina Rabakwena told the court that they had no grounds to prosecute Serite and that they had amended charges against Sebola. Sebola, who is represented by Martin Dingake, will appear again on August 24.
