To make it worse, the BNF only got one council seat in a city it has had control over since 1984. The only win for the BNF was recorded in its traditional stronghold of Gaborone South where it got its sole council seat.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) grabbed three more Gaborone seats from the BNF to add to the one they held through Keletso Rakhudu in the 2004 polls. The remaining constituency, Gaborone Central was retained by the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) which won it in 2004.
