Road Traffic Accidents Decline

The Botswana Police say it has noted a decline in road traffic accidents after recording 155 cases in the recent Presidents’ Holidays.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Witness Bosija told The Monitor that compared to the same period last year, road traffic accidents have gone down. Last year during the same period the police recorded 180 accidents compared to the 155 in 2016. He said that police visibility in major roads during the Presidents’ Holidays has contributed to the decline in the number of road traffic accidents. However he expressed conern that the number of lives lost in fatal accidents is rising.

“Police recorded seven fatal road traffic accidents that claimed nine lives during this year’s Presidents Holidays. During the same period last year, police recorded four deaths,” said Bosija.
