RADP houses face backlog

MABUTSANE: Though housing the less privileged in remote areas through the Rural Areas Development Programme (RADP) is a noble gesture, Mabutsane Sub District is facing a serious backlog after failing to meet its housing targets for the past two financial years.

Addressing a sub-council meeting in Mabutsane on Monday, the chairman Kgopolo Ramosesane noted with worry that the council continues to experience a backlog in constructing houses for the destitute in the area. He said out of the targeted 29 houses, only 20 were completed in the 2014/15 financial year and in 2015/16 only 15 were completed out of a total of 23.

Ramosesane attributed the delay to distance barrier and shortage of transport to deliver materials to the site. He said most of the roads have bad terrain and the nearest building materials hardware is in Jwaneng, which is more than 150km away.
