RAD pupils strike over "maltreatment"

About 100 pupils and students in Mabutsane in Ngwaketse West have gone on strike over alleged inadequate food and general maltreatment at their RAD hostels. Reports say the students, mainly Basarwa who stay in special hostels for Rural Area Dwellers, are from Kutuku, Kanaku and other settlements.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ngwaketse West, Memphato Reatile, said in an interview that the problem of food shortages at the RAD hostels was not new.

"The problem has been there, but it is the first time the students have gone on strike over it", Reatile said.
