Purse-snatcher awaits sentence

LOBATSE: Following his conviction last Friday for robbery, hand bag snatcher, Phenyo Tlou 22, of Woodhall 1 ward in Lobatse will be sentenced on June 24. The Magistrate Court heard how on the evening of June 8, 2016 Tlou attacked Goitseone Motukwa in Pitikwe ward and snatched her handbag.

He admitted in court that he robbed Motukwa of her brown hand bag which contained bank cards, a purse and a Huawei cellphone and other property, all totalling P1, 330.

The complainant testified that she was from her home on the way to work and was confronted by Tlou, who had approached from behind. Out of fear, she asked him where he had suddenly emerged, but Tlou did not respond and instead grabbed the complainant by the hand and stretched out his other hand to snatch the handbag. A brief struggle ensued with Tlou eventually overpowering the complainant. However, a friend to Motukwa approached the scene causing Tlou to run away.
