PSI urges unions, govt to dialogue

The sub-regional secretary for southern Africa at Public Services International (PSI), Thembi Mngomezulu, has urged government and unions to return to dialogue to find a mutually acceptable way forward.

Mngomezulu was giving a keynote address yesterday at the first anniversary of the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions' (BOFEPUSU) national public sector strike at the Gaborone Senior Secondary School (GSSS) grounds.

Addressing a decreased number of public employees compared to the multitudes who thronged the GSSS grounds when the strike broke out last year, Mngomezulu said: "Conflict resolution cannot take place on the street, the notion that the employer makes unilateral declarations is not taking the process forward".
