Prostate cancer 'a concern' in Botswana

Prostate cancer is among the top five common cancers affecting adult males in Botswana that constituted seven percent of total cancer cases between 2001 and 2010.

The Acting Director of Public Health in the Ministry of Health, Dr Haruna Jibril, revealed this at the launch of November as the month for commemoration of male health campaign in Gaborone recently. Jibril said the health sector in Botswana was concerned about the increasing prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases affecting males, especially cancer.

"The highly affected age group are those over the age of 45 years while a peak is observed more after the age of 65," Jibril said.
