'President Khama is the problem'

Opposition parties have expressed mixed feelings about President Ian Khama's State of the Nation Address yesterday.

Said the President of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Duma Boko: “The speech is not entirely graduative, and he (Khama) is not honest with the citizens.” He characterised DCEC as ineffectual and said the Office of the Ombudsman does not exist.

Boko further argued that Khama was taking the ordinary people for granted. “That is why they don’t even register (for elections). He has failed and continues to fail this democracy Khama has weakened our democracy and it is now a ‘monocracy’ run by one person - an individual with his family and friends,” he said.
