PPP vital for large projects - Tibone

Former assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Charles Tibone commended Private Public Partnerships (PPP) yesterday for "facilitating projects completion in time and within budget".

Tibone said in Parliament yesterday that this model is effective as most of the risks remain with the private sector for the duration of the concession period.

"Unitary fees ensure stability of the budgetary commitments and the assets are maintained on a regular basis," he said. Answering a question from Shoshong Member of Parliament (MP), Phillip Makgalemele on the total investment for projects carried on PPP, which amounts to P215 million, he said there was a need to use this model in fairly large and complex projects. He also emphasised the need to build capacity on PPP within the economy.
