Police clamp down on illegal shebeens

Concerned with the mushrooming of shebeens in the area weeks ago police started weekend operations targeting troublesome shebeens. Naledi station commander, superintendent Oagile Bolane said their operations managed to control the situation, as operators are now afraid of charges hence complying with the liquor trading hours.
“We have been raiding and charging owners of illegal shebeens something that has brought positive results because they have stopped operating illegally. We also had a meeting with the area kgosi to always consult us first before issuing shebeen licenses so that we can provide him with their background before he issues out licences,” said Bolane.
