JWANENG: Magistrate Odirile Mokgatle literally saved the youthful Kutlwano Tshikantwa’s lucrative job at Majwe Mining by suspending his one year, six months jail sentence and ordering the latter be lashed four strokes for assaulting a police officer last year. Tshikantwa was accused of assaulting one Laone Kalakane and a police officer, sergeant Mosarwa Lesaka on July 25, 2015.

Tshikantwa was convicted of assault common where it was noted that he assaulted Kalakane after a drinking spree in Jwaneng. Kalakane was in the company of another state witness Amantle Mosega and a driver only referred as Peace. It emerged that after the closure of the bar, they headed to Mokala Lodge where they continued with their entertainment before they went to buy food at Shell Filling Station where trouble started.

It is in the court’s record that Tshikantwa was concerned about the P100 Peace offered for food and he assaulted Kalakane with a beer bottle. Upon his arrest by the police, the accused became violent and rained blows on Lesaka who was in police uniform. Lesaka sustained an eye injury.
