Pheto, UDC talks collapse

Talks to lure Lentsweletau-Mmopane MP, Moeng Pheto to join the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) have collapsed. The UDC has been trying to lure the former minister, since he defected from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in April.

After the collapse of negotiations, Pheto maintained that he is still keen to defend his seat as an independent candidate. “We did not agree because I do not want a situation where any person has to pave way for me. At the end, it brings instability to the party in the area,” Pheto said. 

Meanwhile the UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa has said he is not aware that talks with Pheto have collapsed.
