Peace Corps intervention in HIV/AIDS extolled

The United States Peace Corps have been praised for contributing significantly to the national HIV/AIDS response at the peak of the scourge in 2003.

Their contribution and involvement helped reduce HIV/AIDS deaths drastically, with the transmission of HIV from positive mothers having declined from a projected 40 percent in 2003 to less than four percent today.

The Minister of Health, Reverend Dr John Seakgosing, made these remarks in Phakalane yesterday at a ceremony to honour 49 American volunteers who have served in Botswana for the past two to three years.
