Orange Botswana in partnerships for new MDGs

Orange Botswana has partnered with Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA) and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including the Dutch NGO for the 'Voice Africa's Future' campaign, in a project to help Africa's youths.

The campaign, which Orange will be helping with, asks the youth to share their vision for Africa's future using their mobile phones.By the use of cellphone technology, the youth are given a chance to participate as future leaders by stating what they want the next set of  'Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to tackle.Through their participation the United Nations (UN) would use their suggestions to shape the MDGs from 2015 and beyond.

Orange explained that the move was made possible because of the high usage of cell phones in Botswana, as the campaign would solely rely on them for those participating. With Botswana ranked second in Africa for mobile technology penetration, which means a large percentage of Batswana have access to cell phones, Orange stressed that using cell phones for short messaging system (SMS) to give the youth a voice makes perfect sense.Orange is the only network provider in Botswana currently involved in the initiative.
