Opposition coalition oust BDP

FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been ousted from the deputy mayorship, after an opposition coalition comprised of Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) yesterday moved a motion of no confidence in deputy mayor, Stanley Masalila.

In an apparent well-orchestrated move to nominate Francistown Central ward councillor Ephraim Maiketso to take over the deputy mayorship, BCP councillor for Itekeng ward Professor L Tlou broke the ice by tabling the urgent motion of no confidence in Masalila.

His arguments were that, " we are here as the opposition challenged with the responsibility of delivering and as such we feel that we should have a new deputy mayor from within the opposition as the current one was not delivering."
