OP classifies Moengs as 'village clowns'

The Office of the President (OP) is said to have resolved to treat with contempt claims by George Moeng and his family that they are the rightful heirs to the Bakwena chieftainship, and the other claim that they have changed the political system of Botswana.

"It is as a joke that should never be treated seriously," said an officer at OP who preferred not to be named. The source added that the Moengs are just 'village clowns' that should not be given any attention as they are nowhere near President Ian Khama's priorities. "Anybody can call themselves a King, but that doesn't mean they will be treated as such," said the source.

President Khama recently told residents of Molepolole about a letter he received from the Moeng family proclaiming to be in charge of the country and having established a governing council that includes amongst others Director General of the DIS Isaac Kgosi, Margaret Nasha, Kgosi Puso Gaborone, and Daniel Kwelagobe.  Our efforts to get a comment from the aforementioned names were futile at the time of going to press.
