Only seven Chinese granted citizenship

Parliament has been informed that 443 nationals of Indian origin and seven nationals of Chinese origin have been granted citizenship since 1966 to date.

The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Edwin Batshu said after consideration of applications, the Citizenship Committee makes recommendations to the minister who makes the final decision.

He said the criteria for consideration of applications for citizenship are provided for by the Presidential Directive CAB 19 (b)/2002.
