LOBATSE: The High Court has barred the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from nominating a candidate who will represent the party in the Francistown West by-election tomorrow.

The loser in the recent BDP primary elections, Whyte Marobela, successfully challenged Ignatius Moswaane’s victory in court, saying the election was marred with irregularities. He made an urgent application asking the court to stop the nomination until his appeal to the party’s Central Committee is attended to. He also sought to halt the by-election. Marobela cited the BDP, Moswaane and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) as first, second and third respondents respectively.

In his ruling made at 7pm last night, Justice Tshepo Motswagole said he was satisfied with the arguments brought before him.
