Botswana men are still reluctant to test for HIV and enrol for treatment. Therefore, it is important for the government and other stakeholders to come up with creative ways to entice men to test.

According to the panelists during the Success of Treat-All Champions Project in Gaborone on Tuesday, men did not show interest in many initiatives introduced by the government, health facilities and other HIV preventative groups because they felt the programmes were specifically tailored for women. Many women, compared to their male counterparts go for HIV testing and take treatment because they can relate to existing HIV prevention programmes.

“Men test through women. They never go for testing and think that as long as their female partners test negative, that makes them automatically negative as well.
