New minerals policy to benefit Batswana

SELEBI-PHIKWE: A senior official in the Ministry of Minerals Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR) has told councillors that proposed amendments to the minerals policy will foster growth opportunities for citizens in the mining sector.

Officials from the ministry are touring local authorities across the country to collect feedback on proposed amendments to the Mines and Minerals Act as well as the minerals policy.

The deputy director (Minerals Affairs) in the ministry, Khumo Mogaetsho said since independence government has been spearheading investment in minerals, but direct participation by locals was now necessary.
