Botswana and Zimbabwe are planning to open a new border post at Mmamabaka in the Bobirwa area. Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) senior communications officer, Mpho Maifala told Mmegi that the date for the opening of the border post will be made public immediately after the necessary logistical and legal arrangements are in place.

He explained that on the Botswana side, porta cabins for both residential and office purposes have been installed. Botswana officers who will be working at the border post have been identified and ready for duty.

"The governments of Botswana and Zimbabwe have received representations from people who live in the Mmamabaka area, on both sides of the envisaged border post, who have to travel long distances to gazetted border posts in order to cross into Botswana or Zimbabwe and vice versa," said Maifala.
