Nearly half of Batswana don't know their HIV status

Like other nations confronted with what has been described as humanity's worst enemy, Botswana wants to eliminate HIV/AIDS deaths through zero infections, zero discrimination against those living with the disease and zero transmission from mother to child.

However, it came to light at the World AIDS Day Commemoration in Moshupa last Thursday that government is concerned about the number of people who do not know their HIV status. Even though the uptake of routine HIV testing is very high, only 54 percent of the population knows its status.

Hence the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration has appealed to Batswana to make use of available testing services because elimination HIV/AIDS can only be achieved if people knew their status.
