An agreement between the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) and Ministry of Health (MoH) for better pre-hospital and emergency care is bearing fruit, thanks to the MVA, which has donated five equipped ambulances.

The ambulances will be given to Gaborone's Princess Marina and Francistown's Nyangabwe referral hospitals. The MoH-MVA partnership is meant to improve provision of emergency health services to minimize deaths resulting from motor accidents.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Health, Reverend John Seakgosing said over the weekend that the partnership would also benefit the MVA, which has been incurring high costs due to an increase in road accidents, by outsourcing emergency medical services. He said his ministry lacks skilled personnel in the provision of quality pre-hospital care to trauma patients and adequately equipped ambulances.
