MPs wary of Khama�s tourism interests

The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism (MEWT,) Tshekedi Khama, was at pains yesterday to explain to Parliament the interests of his brother, President Ian Khama in the Gcwihaba Caves.

The caves are a national monument and a tourist attraction. Questions over the President’s interests in tourism flared up several years ago when he was linked to a listed multi-million Pula group with assets across the tourism heartland in north-western Botswana.

There were more queries yesterday when Kgatleng West Member of Parliament, Gilbert Mangole, asked a question that seemed to leave Tshekedi Khama uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, petty thieves tend to be more vicious around this time as they also prepare for the festive season. Culturally, many Batswana go home for the holiday, and petty thieves are amongst those who go home.
