Mpai clarifies Barclays retrenchment issues

The managing director of Barclays Bank Botswana, Wilfred Mpai finally broke the silence on the banks' recent retrenchment crisis.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mpai said the issue of the Barclays retrenchments had been a thorny one.Some of the bank's employees have allegedly threatened to stage a nationwide strike early next year over unfair dismissals.  He said they learnt from different publications that there was a plan for a strike soon.

Mpai felt that the real problem was not the retrenchments but the bank's deliberate approach to poor employee performance that it dealt with aggressively.
