Motswana in SA court for plot to kill husband

A woman who was arrested in the Northern Cape, South Africa for allegedly conspiring to have her husband killed has been identified as Merriam Leshiba from Mabolwe, a village near Bobonong in Botswana.

Leshiba allegedly wanted to have her husband, a top Eskom executive, Leshiba Oscar Tau, killed. The Monitor has since established that the 41-year-old Leshiba is still in police custody facing a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. She is on trial at Kimberly Regional Court and is billed to appear next on July 3.

Following a joint operation by members of the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime and Kimberley Crime Intelligence, Leshiba was arrested at the Indian Centre in Kimberley when she allegedly hired hitmen to murder her estranged husband, police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said in a statement. “Following a week-long intelligence gathering and surveillance, the team executed the arrest with the assistance of agents who posed as hitmen,” Tawana said.
