Broadhurst police are investigating a case in which a mother and her one-week-old infant were recently found dead in Tawana, Gaborone.

The 42-year-old woman, who was reported to have been living with epilepsy, was found lying on top of her week-old infant. They were both found dead. It is suspected that the new mother might have had an attack and fell on top of her baby and suffocated the infant to death.

Broadhurst Police Station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae said the incident was reported on Thursday but it was suspected to have occurred a day before. “The deceased was staying with her family, her mother and other siblings in the same compound but in a separate house and it looks like they took time to notice something might have happened to her and her baby,” he said.
