The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Council (TEC) Dr Patrick Molutsi has called on the nation's leadership to be more accommodative of divergent views, as that enhances democracy.

Speaking at the Botswana Sectors of Educators' Trade Union (BOSETU)  Molutsi called on the country's political, social and religious leadership to know that they have all been called as servants of the people that they lead.

Molutsi said lack of tolerance has led to fragmentation of  political parties, Non Governmental Organisations and labour movements. He said this is tended to curtail democracy because as representatives of the masses, leaders ought to stand and provide answers to the people's demands,  and be quick to hear in order for their interests to be safeguarded. Using the Setswana proverb 'kgosi thothobolo e olela matlakala', Molutsi said that leaders need to appreciate that all sort of rubbish gather in the rubbish dump and that they are pretty much a dumpsite for their people's ideas. It is for them to listen and make quality decisions on behalf of the people, he said.
