Following the Umbrella For Democratic Change-led government’s commitment to reviving the health sector, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has revealed significant progress has been achieved in pushing surgeries up on the waiting list.

According to the ministry, as of December 2024, out of 200 orthopaedic patients on the waiting list, 120 patients have been operated on.

Health's Chief Public Relations Officer Christopher Nyanga explained to MmegiOnline that, in line with the Umbrella For Democratic Change (UDC) administration’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage for all, regardless of who or where they live, the Health ministry is working around the clock to revive the ailing sector.

"The reduction was a result of the ministry's initiative to mobilise resources and devote considerable time to the surgeries. Patients were also distributed between Princess Marina Hospital, Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital, and Mahalapye District Hospital for easy manageability. Some partners from the private sector were also roped in. This helped a lot as the ministry was able to conduct orthopaedic surgeries on 120 of the 200 trauma patients on the waiting list at Princess Marina Hospital," Nyanga shared. Meanwhile, as for the patients' feedback, they were very appreciative of the ministry’s efforts and have been satisfied with the quality of services provided.
