Teacher unions have asked the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) to revise invigilation and course work rates from last year's. At a meeting held by unions and education ministry last week, it appeared impossible for MoESD to meet teachers' labour movements demand. The result of which was a postponement of the meeting to this week.

After long negotiations last year, Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), Botswana Teachers union (BTU), Botswana Primary Teachers' Association (BOPRITA) and the education permanent secretary, Grace Muzila, agreed on an invigilation fee of P50 per hour. Coursework supervision on the other hand was priced at P35 per script.

The unions have proposed a number of payment options this year,to be discussed with ministry officials. They asked that head of centre and chief invigilator's rates be increased by 40 percent. Last year, this category had a flat rate of P1,850 at primary level, P3,700 at junior secondary and lastly P5,500 at senior secondary schools. In an interview,  BTU publicity secretary, Tidimalo Maeletso, said he could not divulge more information, as they are still to return to negotiation tables with MoESD officials.
