FRANCISTOWN: An employee of one of Lucara's subcontracted companies has been taken into custody concerning a rape incident at Tawana ward in Letlhakane.

Letlhakane Police station commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu, stated in an interview that the 36-year-old man was apprehended last week on suspicion of raping his neighbour's girlfriend. The man’s arrest follows reports that he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim and fled the scene after the incident.

Before the assault, there were reports that the 19-year-old teenage girl had spent the night out with her boyfriend but returned home alone. It was reported that the suspect assaulted the teen and sexually exploited her once she arrived home alone. Maphephu informed the media that they are awaiting the forensic lab results, which will determine when the suspect will appear in court.
