Botswana Meteorological Services (BMS) has urged Batswana to remain vigilant and take safety precautions over the persistent downpours of heavy rain across the country. Meteorological services noted that Botswana will continue to experience rain over the next week.

"Heavy falls of 50mm or more in 24 hours with potential of flash flooding are expected in some areas of the country. Therefore, the public is advised to take necessary precautions," reported the meteorological service.

Since the heavy rainfalls over the weekend, Water Utilities has reported that water levels at the dams have surged, with most recording over 90%.

Gaborone Dam remains the only one that has scored less than 50% dam level as it currently stands at 48.7%.

Despite the heavy pours of rain across Botswana, the famous Ramotswa-Taung road, known for shutting down due to the floods, remains operational.

Ramotswa Police Station commander James Moikotlhanyi told The Monitor that the area hasn't been spared of the heavy downpours of rain.

However, he reported that, fortunately, this time around, the bridge hadn't submerged.

"We have been receiving rain since Saturday, like most parts of the country. The river is almost full, but this time around, the road isn't closed," he said.

Though the road remains operational, Moikotlhanyi highlighted that they are monitoring the situation and will advise residents promptly if the rain persists.

Meanwhile, he has noted no damage to households or property has been recorded at Ramotswa and nearby villages.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has also reported that the A1 Highway along Pitsane and Pitsane-Potlokwe has been closed due to a damaged cattle grid.
