LECHENG: The Ministry of Education and Skills Development has noted that men are generally shying away from enrolling in the government-funded Out-of-School Education and Training (OSET) programme.

Central Education Region director, Sonny Mooketsi said this was despite the fact that the programme continued to enhance and improve skill development among Batswana. OSET provides learning to adults who have generally been excluded from learning opportunities by age, gender and low social status.  The programme targets unemployed adults who also lack social benefits.

Addressing scores of OSET learners who thronged Lecheng Kgotla to commemorate the Central District’s Literacy Day over the weekend, Mooketsi noted that men appeared generally unwilling to enroll in the programme.
