Medical, research institute a must - BEH chief

The Botswana Education Hub (BEH) coordinator Mogotsa Kewagamang said to counter shortage of doctors, which emanates largely from the fact that Batswana students sent abroad do not return, the country should set up a medical and research institute.

Kewagamang said this trend deprives the local health care system of the much-needed skilled human resource despite government expenditure in educating them. He was addressing an exploratory education mission made up of university professors from the United States of America (US) led by Botswana's Ambassador to Washington, Tebelelo Seretse.

 To date, about 40 Batswana doctors are practising in the US while 100 others are in Ireland.
