LOBATSE: Typical of an election year, the strains are beginning to show. Drama unravelled in Lobatse on Fridaywhen the Mayor, Caroline Lesang, also the chairperson of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) women’s wing, allegedly pounced on her former campaign mates, and tore up their campaign material, apparently as punishment for decamping to a different political stable.

The incident was on Saturday registered with Woodhall police in Lobatse, according to the victims. The local police authorities refused to cooperate with The Monitor team.

The station commander, Tebogo Madisa, said he could not help The Monitor concernin the mayor’s assault case as he was off duty until monday.
