SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) has said that though it has exhausted all avenues in bringing the plight of BCL employees and the mine’s situation to the fore, it has not received any feedback.

The union petitioned Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi in April this year but nothing has come out of that. The union has called for a comprehensive commission of enquiry to probe both the economic, operational and health and safety problems together with labour matters.

They wanted the enquiry to specifically, among other things, to examine the BCL Polaris 11 in relation to its viability as a strategic business diversification initiative and possible depletion of the company’s reserves. The union believes that Polaris 11 is the one that led to the mine’s current financial crisis.
