Masisi puts constitutional review into disrepute

FRANCISTOWN: A University of Botswana (UB) politics observer has waded in the ‘controversial’ commission of inquiry into the review of the Constitution of Botswana.

From the onset, the constitutional review has been criticised by key stakeholders such as the Botswana’s main opposition party, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

In December last year, UDC president Duma Boko told the nation during a press conference in Gaborone that the coalition categorically rejected the approach taken by President Mokgweetsi Masisi in appointing the commission.

The situation is exacerbated by the ruling party’s admission that some of its most important election promises remain unfulfilled. This is not the change many Batswana had expected. The UDC was elected into power on a strong promise to improve lives, create jobs, protect workers and repair public services.
