Marobela gears for more BDP battles

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) gladiator, Whyte Marobela seems to be gearing up for another fight. The man who made history by single-handedly engineering the BDP’s no-show in the Francistown West by-election has dropped broad hints that he will not allow fresh primaries in the constituency unless his grievances are addressed.

He told Mmegi that the controversial primary held last year for the by-election served as the primary for the general elections as stated by the party. Therefore, there can be no fresh primary, unless the issues that he has raised are addressed. He said a fresh primary cannot take place because the BDP has not resolved the issues he raised in the court case that knocked the party out of the recent by-election.

Marobela said the BDP leadership has agreed to hold a meeting with him to discuss his case. The date of the meeting has not been set. He said he will map the way forward after the meeting.
