A 20-year-old man has been admitted to hospital after he was hit by a cab in a bizarre incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Bokaa ward, Mahalapye.

According to Mahalapye Central Police Station's acting commander, Superintendent Moatlhodi Onalenna, the young man, along with two friends, reportedly jumped in front of an approaching taxi. The incident occurred around 3am shortly after the cab had left the Mahalapye Bus Rank en route to Shoshong. Onalenna said the cab driver reported that one of the young men suddenly crossed into the vehicle’s path, resulting in him being hit. "The victim was thrown onto an oncoming police vehicle, smashing its windscreen. Then, his friends fled the scene immediately after the accident. "The injured man sustained head and hand injuries but, fortunately, they aren't life-threatening," he said.

Onalenna added that the pedestrian remains under medical care as police continue with their investigations to understand what led the trio to run into the road under such circumstances. "At this stage, the motive behind their actions remains unclear," he said.
