LSB condemns delivery failure

The Law Society of Botswana (LSB) chairperson Lawrence Lecha has complained that the magistracy continues to largely fail in terms of delivery. The LSB would be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Maun Lodge this weekend.

In his 2012/2013 report Lecha stated: “Some magistrates have increasingly become a law unto themselves, detaining members of the public and practitioners willy-nilly, postponing matters at their whim and failing to timeously give dates for trial and hearings.”

Lecha stated in the report that the Chief Justice (CJ) and the Judiciary Service Commission need to be encouraged to ensure that the offending magistrates are brought to book. He said that it is in this light that members are urged to come forth regarding the difficulties they face and problems they encounter whilst appearing before the magistrate courts.
