Libya-based Batswana students safe says Skelemani

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Phandu Skelemani, has said that the four Batswana in Libya are safe. Addressing parliament yesterday, the minister said he was told on Wednesday by the Libyan ambassador that the four Batswana were safe at their school near Tripoli Airport.

He told parliament that his ministry is doing everything possible to contact them so that if they need to be "evacuated, the government will do everything in its power to repatriate them back to Botswana," he said.

Mmegi is informed that the quartet is in Libya as students on sponsorship by the Libyan government.Meanwhile Botswana has announced that it has severed diplomatic relations with the Muammar Gaddafi-led country.
