Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leader Ian Khama has been declared president of the Republic of Botswana after his party garnered the required majority in parliament from the Friday general elections.

The declaration was made by the Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice Maruping Dibotelo on state media at 2am on October 26, 2014. 

BDP had accumulated the required 29 seats out of 57 in the 2014 general elections just after midnight on Sunday.
